D. SPACE는 대지 내부의 소나무를 그대로 살려 건축물을 배치했는데, 데크를 뚫고 서 있는 소나무의 모습이 인상적이다. 조형예술을 전시하는 갤러리의 정체성을 드러내는 ‘Mass’라는 이름을 모티브로, 데크와 테라스가 단순한 ‘판’이 아니라 하나의 Mass로 인식되도록 구성하되 주변 조망을 해치지 않도록 조율했다. 수직 루버 너머로 겹쳐 보이는 자연 풍경을 통해, 금속 루버의 물성보다 비물질적인 이미지가 먼저 읽히도록 계획했다.

중앙 진입부는 접근이 편하도록 크게 열어두고, 주변부는 Mass의 형태가 인지되도록 루버를 설치해 입면을 구성했다. 건물 후면 입면에는 인접 대지의 대나무 숲을 액자처럼 담아낼 수 있도록 프레임을 만들었다. 진입 계단은 양쪽에서 모이는 형태로 계획해 갤러리 입구의 테라스로 자연스럽게 수렴되도록 했다. 갤러리 내부는 아트숍, 전시 공간, 오피스로 구성하고, 오피스를 통해 후면 테라스로 연결된다. 1층 데크는 루버 높이를 조절해 의자에 앉은 상태에서도 주변 풍경을 바라볼 수 있도록 개방감을 확보했다.

D. SPACE was originally placed to preserve an existing pine tree on site, and the sight of the tree rising through the deck is particularly striking. Taking the gallery’s name, “Mass,” as a motif that reflects its identity as a space for sculptural art, the deck and terrace were composed to be read not as a flat plane but as a mass—carefully calibrated so the surrounding views remain unobstructed. Through the natural scenery layered beyond the vertical louvers, the overall perception shifts from the materiality of metal to a more immaterial image.

The central entrance is opened generously for easy access, while louvers along the perimeter shape the façade so the massing can be clearly perceived. On the rear façade, a frame was created to capture the adjacent bamboo grove like a picture. The entry stair is planned as two converging flights that lead into a terrace at the gallery entrance. Inside, the gallery is organized into an art shop, exhibition space, and office, with the office connecting through to the rear terrace. On the Level 1 deck, the louver height was adjusted to maintain openness and allow seated visitors to enjoy views of the surrounding landscape.
