야트막한 언덕 중턱, 거대한 도심 한가운데 오래 남아 있는 낮은 주택단지 사이로 단촐한 목조건물이 조용히 자리한다. 취향이 뾰족한 세 사람이 모여 만든 이곳은 음악과 술, 그리고 쉼이 공존하는 도심 속 아지트다. ‘진공관’은 프라이빗한 은신처의 성격을 유지하면서도, 그 위에 약간의 소셜한 결을 덧입힌 공간으로 기획했다. 음악을 듣고 영화를 보며 각자의 취향을 나누되, 방문자는 관객이 아니라 ‘머무는 사람’에 가깝게 남도록 분위기를 설정했다.
Halfway up a gentle slope, a modest wooden house sits quietly within a rare pocket of low-rise homes that has endured in the heart of the city. Created by three people with sharply defined tastes, this place is an urban hideout where music, drinks, and rest coexist. Gingongkwan was conceived as a private retreat with a subtle social layer—an environment for listening to music, watching films, and sharing preferences without turning the experience into a spectacle. Visitors are not treated as an audience, but as people who stay.
오래된 목조주택은 그 자체로 매력을 지니지만, 주 기능인 음악 감상에는 불리한 조건을 안고 있다. 이를 개선하기 위해 벽체와 천장 내부에 차음판과 흡음재를 시공해 외부 소음을 줄이고 내부 울림을 정리했다. 작은 볼륨에서도 소리가 선명하게 유지되도록 기본 음향 환경을 재구성한 것이다. 정면 중앙에는 소리를 고르게 퍼뜨릴 수 있는 디퓨징 형태의 선반을 제작해 시각적 중심과 음향적 역할을 함께 부여했다. 후면에는 흡음을 위한 커튼을 설치해 잔향을 안정적으로 제어하도록 계획했다.
그 결과 ‘진공관’은 도심의 소음에서 잠시 분리되어, 소리와 화면, 그리고 취향이 차분히 쌓이는 한 편의 장면 같은 공간이 된다. 낯설지 않지만 분명히 다른 밀도의 시간. 그 시간을 오래 머물 수 있게 만드는 것이 이 프로젝트의 핵심이다.
While the aged timber house carries its own charm, it also presents acoustic limitations for its primary purpose: deep listening. To improve performance, soundproofing panels and acoustic absorbers were installed inside the walls and ceiling to reduce external noise and control internal resonance. This reconfigured the baseline acoustic environment so clarity could be maintained even at lower volumes. At the center of the front elevation, a custom shelving system was designed with a diffusing geometry, serving as both a visual anchor and an acoustic device. At the rear, sound-absorbing curtains were introduced to stabilize reverberation and fine-tune the room’s balance.
As a result, Gingongkwan becomes a place temporarily separated from the city’s noise—an interior where sound, image, and taste accumulate calmly, like a single extended scene. Familiar, yet unmistakably different in density. Making that distinct time last is the core of this project.
